Friday, 19 .11.2010, in the conference room of the library "Marucelliana" in Florence, Antonino Contilia presented his latest book of poems I (S) Dyad / The binary dell'asiento , edited for notebooks "Collective R / Atahualpa, 2010," the magazine of poetry and literature, directed by Luca Rosi. The presentation of the work was done by the author Marsala Martha Canfield (University of Florence) and the Sicilian poet and essayist John Commute.
Contilia the poet, returning in Marsala, we ask you to refer, briefly, how the meeting went and if I (S) Dyad / The binary dell'asiento received additional evidence (beyond that already published by us of Mary Patrick Allotta in recent days), if in the course or any other publication in its anthology, and if we can say that motivation led him to write (not long ago our newspaper has hosted two items) on the painting of Toti Lombardo and Giacomo Cuttone.
Responses:
The presentation went beyond my expectations for the cutting of critical speeches of the two speakers, both qualified for the attention of the public. The start was given by the poet L. Rosi. Rosi recalled the old ties that since the late seventies (of the last century) onwards Contilia held close to the group of Florentine poets of commitment and experimentation of those years, and how the magazine CollettivoR "was a through the strongest with the poetry of the Sicilian dell'Antigruppo, whose voice was one of Contilia youngest and last. Rosie also said the participation of Contilia experiences and cultural performances and poetry of the 'Arch / roller-coaster "of Florence in the eighties of last century, John
Commare, covering the various texts of the book, he met sull'unitarietà poetic style of I (S) Dyad / The binary dell'asiento, highlighting the fact that the existential and political content have been filtered by both a sound and rhythmic polyphony (carefully constructed by sliding signifiers and / or using various forms of sound- poietic compositional logic and rhetoric) and from a deliberate and marked allegorizing parody. A language "upset" and "complex" in its various offers and stretched to the degree of irony (strong and funny) and sarcasm (as noted by the poet and critic Dominic Cara about "Time of layout", 2007);
Martha Canfield ( University of Florence), after asking the direct reading of the poet "Binary, dark, Fuse, Spin," focuses his attention on "Spin". One of the texts of the collection relates to the Eros with the feminine body language and strange as intriguing. But it also speaks of eros in its links with politics and religion. As suggested I (S) Dyad), in fact, eros infiltrates and affects the body system religion and politics. Note, not to talk about our days, that tells us the story of the beheading of the "rebel" Giovanni Battista ordered by the king, but wanted to Herodias as a reward after the erotic dance of Salome. Like John Commare, Canfield also held to point out that, in this poetry collection, Eros is the passion of Contilia for / of the language, and especially that of poetry;
between assistance from the public, that of critic and historian of "literature as a novel general, Stefano Lanuzza. The Lanuzza spoke of neo-baroque linguistic variation that causes proliferative and critical thinking in the face of today wear the language info-emotion/intrattenimento which affects the ability to think. And the verbal and semiotic efflorescence that branched lives of the verses I (S) Dyad it is the clearest proof. The reviewer also mentioned some of our current research and theory of poetry that involves the subject in its individual and collective subjectivity, and the production of collective works of poetry or Sine Nomine (completed or in course of work like this online www.retididedalus.it in with the collective name of "We Rebeldía 2010). He also referred to a neo-Enlightenment search as a bridge between scientific knowledge and poetic. Moreover Ilias Prigogine says that science is a poetic play of nature and history.
For other examples, waiting for the next publication (Arenaria/2011) of the research essay Marta Barbato (University of Palermo), I remember the certificates Franca Alaimo (Palermo) and Maria Attanasio (Caltagirone). Alaimo
Franca: "Contilia belongs to the ranks of writers who, going to open eyes on the muddy and bloody body of the real, non-stops to feed future utopias: is not contained in the very title of his poem (designed as a cross in stages - Some texts titled - World now and here) the answer to the 'dyad was?
That "s" encapsulated does not ask to be released from its bracket as the bars of a cage? And, in fact, by doing so, readers will find the magic formula, eros. Nothing new. Nothing, unless we deal with the "how", that is the medium through which they travel the author's ideas, the ties between his state of observer, observed reality and the overall design of the new map drawn.
Contilia begins to blow up half the usual: the language, mixing with the ferocity of the rebel and tenderness dell'Innamorata who dreams of the other possible language, capable of leading humanity towards new, better goals, so that the destruction scintillino already the seeds of re-construction. Contilia grabs all the body language, Piling parts missing, lost, forgotten, asks greedily at the time and space, including poems, phrases, titles that refer to writers, essays, films, books and anything else of the recent past and distant, and also accepting the terms and phrases of 'other languages, especially from the air in science and mass media, of yesterday and of today.
E 'an erotic exploration of the language characterized by the same passion and power of the senses of a lover who tirelessly travels the body of the woman he loved. This seems to me the meaning of at least half of the texts that make up "I (s) dyad," which, in them, inventing a new kind of love poetry, crushing and sommuovendo, but without clear, lyrical tone, gives voice Contilia, yes, to an intimate story of love, but with awe, to wonder, following his inner track, ends with the woman's body that coincides with that of poetry and language, which is jagged and multiply excited vibrations, leaps of imagination, unusual union, dialogue and conflict: a + and then one of two units in an attempt to undo the limits. E ', ultimately, this is his way of seeing the world, if the other ceases to be away, if it approximates to the more intimate contact, you return the unit.
But it is the utopia, utopia! To be kept high, sure, especially against the false and universally conveyed into the cage of the world increasingly caught up in computer networks, broadcasting, ideological. Which network ever had to make to make Peter's many live fish from Lake Tiberias and shiny that seemed completely senseless! Which network against seemingly deserted, devitalized?
why the net language that spoke well "beautiful" the Pharisees were broken, are broken, ever! Contilia does it in every way, with great seriousness, but sometimes you leave the game, of poverty, of poverty, trying different tones: the ironic, the humorous, the play separately, but also together in the same text, in a sort of large-visual collage of sound.
But the reader must not be distracted, because the author makes the game, at times, those same critics who, as if to say that even the writers of poetry and to be trusted! Attentive reader, who seduces you with words like the snake of Eden! And be careful, indeed, poetry man! Because in this poem - he always says - it talks about you, the reality you live, disasters of greed, of dry laws of the market, the eternal inequality, thirst, hunger, blood, shipwrecks: here they are new martyrs of today! Contilia choose them as fellow travelers of him, giving them the space to cover (Acrylic - "The Island is coming 2" - is the painter James Cotton), where they hope despair among the blue of the sea, the red is the blood of death, blood or a setting sun rises, it is not known; and the green of a promise, a remote island, which is their utopia.
After all, "poetry and utopia are trapped?" Asks Luca Rosi seems that comment with his poetry on the back cover of his book, which, precisely targeted. And a word to say with him, with them, "insiders", because, finally, what is the Contilia wants to prove there, here, now, with the only weapons at his provision, 'the verses and the sneers'. "
Maria Attanasio:" ... thanks to Eros (d) dyad, which I read with great curiosity.
I did not expect it so disruptive textuality and original energy or the strength of your multilingual (English to Latin to French: sometimes all in one verse!), Or a trial so bold expressive, varied, crossed by rhymes and harmonies, from the corrosive irony and commitment by invective and fun (Manet, La Moneda, for example). Especially so expressively deragliante than compared to a poem today more and more serious and sentimental (without feeling, though!) often returns to the heart to rhyme with love, writing with dictatorship. "
The original impetus that motivated me to write on the painting of Toti Lombardo ("Abstraction in painting Toti Lombardo) was the geometry of colors and artistic ornamentation coniugante the story of his journey, the traces of the revised florality Mediterranean culture together with the proportion of conjugated forms of logic and abstract, "invented" and pictorial imagination wisely and patiently cared for.
For the artwork of James Cuttone, the speech would be longer. His painting moved me and moves me to his allegorical and poetic expression "committed" ("The allegorical expressionism in painting of James Cuttone"), and why, harmony, the artist has always interpreted artistically set up my lyrics and the cover of my books. But there is a mutual respect and harmony on the word displayed (poetry) and painting that says (arts). An old militant dissent, research and excavation, which runs through his entire artistic career, is another motivation, as is also the value of its con-figurations related to the themes of "migrant" and its cultural implications -policies, and of which "is not coming Island 2" - which completes the cover of "I (s) dyad / The binary dell'asiento "- is only one copy.
In order to my future publications of poetry, I can anticipate that in Rome (ed. Brew, even the name of the magazine I work with for years) is being printed anthology is a body which is also a section of my unpublished collected under the CONTROPRESENTE title. This small collection is part of "SSSS ... indigo in Kakan", the text dedicated to the "glitz" Marsala summer 2010.
